    Understanding Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety attacks can happen anytime, anywhere when you least expect it.

Anxiety is what we always feel when we are in a tense situation, like studying harder for a major exam, rendering a speech in front of many people, or going on a blind date where you don’t know what to expect; even a bride definitely feel anxious on her wedding day (maybe thinking, what if she’ll be stood up by her groom! What a terrifying thought!). If you feel anxious or fear for certain circumstances or things and with logical reasons to be, it is just a normal and rational response. But, if you feel unexpected surges of overwhelming dread that comes without warning and for no reason at all, it is no longer regular anxiety but anxiety attack.

Anxiety attacks are far more intense than having the feeling of being stressed or anxious that most people experience. It is described as a sudden attack of intense fear or feelings of impending fate or disaster that strike without warning and for no apparent reason. And this can be immediately followed by several symptoms. It is far more intense than having anxiety or the feeling of being stressed out. One in every 75 people worldwide will experience an anxiety attack at one point in his/her life.

Anxiety attacks occur when a level of anxiety is reached which causes the adrenalin to produce severe symptoms which reach a peak in just a matter of minutes. The peak of an attack can range anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, but the symptoms may last a little longer. The symptoms of anxiety attacks are completely harmless, although they can be very frightening. Anxiety attacks belong to a group of anxiety disorder, like panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and agoraphobia.

Most anxiety sufferers report fear of dying, going crazy or losing control of emotions as well as behavior. The incidents generally provoke a strong urge to escape or run away from the place where the attack begins, and they are associated with chest pain or shortness of breath, and feeling of impending doom. Having an anxiety attack can be horribly frightening.

The following list of symptoms is just a guide only. Everyone reacts differently.

Some of the symptoms of anxiety attack are intense heartbeat, difficulty of breathing, palpitation, nausea, excessive sweating and trembling, chest pains, fearful of going crazy or about to die, or sudden chills. Some people may experience different or more anxiety attack symptoms but this does not mean that their condition is far worse or that you are suffering from different undiagnosed condition. And because we are all different, the symptoms during anxiety attacks can vastly vary. You might not find among the listed anxiety attack symptoms what you are experiencing and you’ll start to think there’s something very wrong with you. It’s important to realize that there is nothing wrong with you!

An anxiety attack usually last for several minutes and is considered one of the most disturbing condition that anyone can live through in everyday life. First comes the sudden jolt of fear. The attack can happen anywhere, like the store when shopping or driving down the highway. This results to an increased heart rate, labored breathing or hyperventilation, and sweating. The person having the anxiety attack is very afraid, and having little if any idea why.

Anxiety attacks can be treated successfully with or without having to go through medication or costly therapy. If you have an anxiety attack or feel one coming on, go to a safe place and try to relax. Breathe in and out slowly, and concentrate on a happy thought. Allow yourself to know that everything is okay, that you are safe, that no one is going to hurt you, and know that the feelings you are experiencing will go away very soon. If you have a supporting person that you can talk to, talk to them and allow them to be with you while you are experiencing the anxiety attack. Having someone that cares about you, with you, and helping you through the attack can be very comforting.

Tips for Dealing with Lower Back Pain in Pregnancy

Being pregnancy can cause a lot of discomfort for a woman. Perhaps one of the most uncomfortable things during pregnancy is lower back pain. The pain can go from mild to agonizing, even in the early stages of pregnancy before any weight is gained. As the pregnancy progresses, lower back pain often increases.

In the third trimester when the baby has grown much larger, the changes in the body will cause added strain on the lower back. The abdomen is now front and center. The shift of gravity and the weight of the baby will cause a pull on the lower back. To minimize the pain and discomfort, there are some techniques to help lessen and alleviate the pain.

Avoid gaining too much weight. It’s healthy and natural for a woman who is expecting to gain weight. But it’s important to avoid gaining extra weight. Added weight will increase the change of more lower back pain. Eating right and getting plenty of exercise will help prevent putting on more weight than necessary for Baby.

Enlist the hands of your spouse for a back massage. Not only does a massage help minimize the pain, it’s great for soothing and relaxing tired muscles. The wonderful thing about massages is that you can never get too many of them. They work wonders for natural pain relief. A massage serves a dual purpose. It not only helps to relieve pain in the body, it alleviates stress.

Make use of pillows. Placing a firm pillow behind your lower back when sitting helps to support the lower back. Sleep with pillows between your knees when sleeping on your side, and under the knees when sleeping on your back. This helps to take the pressure of the lower back and thereby stopping the pain before it starts.

Invest in a good mattress. There’s nothing like having a good mattress to sleep on when you are pregnant. Memory foam mattresses, such as the Temperpedic, are wonderful because your body lays in a more natural position, taking the pressure off the hips and back.

Avoid lifting heavy objects and when you do lift something, bend at the knees to lift, not at the waist. Try using a heating pad for brief periods of time on your lower back, a nice warm soaking bath, and even a hot or cold compress to help relieve the pain.

Avoid taking pain medications without your doctor’s approval. If you try these techniques and your lower back pain is still intense, ask your doctor about pain medication during your prenatal visit.

    Exercises for Back Pain

There are exercises for back pain that concentrate on adding more strength to the muscles which take part in arching the spine. The hasty injury is actually a result of ligament tears or disc problems that have been pressured.

Patients always have an option to perform other techniques including lying prone. This is executed by putting their arms on top of their stomachs for about ten to fifteen minutes. An alternative of such is the use of a pillow in order to support the back. There are also instances that press ups and standing extensions are advised to be done.

Physical therapists can teach a lot of exercises for back pain. They will introduce you to this method and other else but the bottomline is that you will apply them. Consistency may be a burden for you but the rewards are worth it. Taking on the consultation from your care specialist is critical in healing those problems.

Here is an example of one of the many natural exercises for back pain. The difference with this is that it is oriental in character. It is a traditional Chinese medicine that has a 2, 500 year old history attached to its name. It offers a lot that also covers stretching, massage, acapuncture, liniments, herbs and plasters.

Some of those who have tried have sought the assistance of a trained traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to administer it to them. However, there are others who have learned it on their own. Further discussed below are exercises for back pain that you can just operate by yourself.

    1. On a firm bed or at the floor, lie on your back. Slowly raise your knees up until they are above abdomen. When grabbing the inside of your shins, spread your knees a little. When you exhale, let your knees effortlessly fall further out to the side with gravity. Close your eyes as you focus your mind on your lower back. Feel the stretch of your inner thighs and the relaxation of your lower back. For several minutes, hold on to that position as you inhale and exhale deeply.

    2. With the knees bent, slide up your feet until they are near your backside. Inhale and exhale as you flatten your lower back by gently pressing it into where you are lying down. Hold on to it for how many seconds then go back to its curled position. Repeat for about three to four times.

    3. In a table, lean across and grab the far edge with both hands. With your torso on the table, your legs should be hanging from the edge. Inhale and exhale as you feel the gravity naturally pulling your legs down towards the floor. Feel it being stretched as you hold on to it for several minutes together with a slow breathing. Close your eyes and imagine the pain releasing with each exhalation.

    Rosacea Skin Care

Rosacea is a skin disorder that affects both women and men, often beginning when they enter the age of 30’s, 40’s, or 50’s. It starts as a transient or flushing redness on the nose, cheeks, and in a number of cases the forehead and chin. The earliest stage of rosacea may have some burning or stinging sensations, including a dry or tight skin feeling. When the condition advances, the flushing turns more noticeable and persistent. The skin may have papules, which are small, solid, red bumps, and pustules which are pus-filled spots.

Rosacea should not be taken lightly when the first signs show up, as it can turn into more complicated cases that affect more parts of the face such as swollen face skin, formation of cysts, and small, knotted bumps on the nose that make it appear swollen and red. This skin condition is provoked by a lot of factors including spicy foods, sunlight, hot liquids, mental and physical stress, allergy and sinus conditions, alcohol, and extreme temperatures. Appropriate Rosacea skin care regimen should be practiced daily, and here are some of them:

Skin cleansing with non-irritating, oil-free, soap-free, and fragrance-free mild skin cleanser is the first step towards Rosacea skin care, and should be performed daily. Remember that removing dirt without upsetting the layers that protect the skin or the natural pH balance is very important. Use a small amount as possible of cleanser, gently applying with the fingers, rinsing with a lot of lukewarm water, blotting with soft towel is the right way to do it.

Medical treatment has no substitute in the effective Rosacea skin care. If diagnosed, cautiously follow the prescribed treatment, applying the prescription in thin layer athwart affected areas, allowing it to dry before putting moisturizer, sunscreen, or make-up. Using a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher is advisable, especially to every exposed area while outdoors.

Moisturizing with enduring water-based cream or lotion formulated moisturizer is another important part of Rosacea skin care. Since this condition is distinguished with dryness, affects the normal protective wall of the facial skin, thus the need to select a product that’s mild and do not contain lanolin or fragrances.

Maintain the skin’s healthy, normal state through face cleansing plus moisturizing twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime.

The proper Rosacea skin care helps reduce the further aggravation of Rosacea; it is always best to consult a dermatologist for diagnosis and suitable treatment of Rosacea. Remember, treatment delayed is treatment denied.

A Survival Guide to Overcome and Recover from a Food Allergy

Selective eating… you are to undergo such a phase when you are allergic to some kinds of food and beverages. A food allergy is the body’s immunologic reaction due to the presence of food protein.

Nowadays, there are several reading materials to help you understand the things you need to know about food allergy. One such example is the book called “5 Years without Food: The Food Allergy Survival Guide: How to Overcome Your Food Allergies and Recover Good Healthy.” The book discusses overview of food allergy as well as the foods which you can and cannot eat and its alternatives. Additionally, you will also learn some necessary food allergy treatment from the book. Furthermore, “a personal testimonial” from the author makes the book credible as reviewed by readers.

Aside from the information which can be derived from the book, here are some helpful additional ideas you might want to add in your collection of thoughts.

Commonly, adults are allergic to foods such as eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish and fish. Kids, on the other hand, are inflicted with allergies to peanuts, milk and eggs. If you are aware that you have food allergy, what you need to undertake is to be well-informed about the allergy you have. By doing so, you will be able to overcome and recover from such allergy.

Some types of food allergies will be discussed for further reference:

    Egg Allergy

An individual afflicted with the said allergy is hypersensitive to foods containing substance from eggs – the white or the yolk.

For some time, you are restricted to consume foods containing eggs. These days, there are egg substitutes which you can use such as tapioca and starch from potatoes. Apple sauce can also be an alternative.

    Nut Allergy

People who are oversensitive to tree nuts end up experiencing allergic attacks. Nut allergy should not be interchanged with peanut allergy. It is different from the latter since tree nuts are considered fruits that are dry.

Types of food prepared from soy nuts are considered to be a good alternative in the absence of tree nuts in your diet. A soy nut is not necessarily a nut; it is a soybean which undergoes the process of soaking and baking to achieve its crisp end result.

    Milk Allergy

There are individuals who upon ingestion of proteins from a cow’s milk develop an allergic reaction. When this happens, such individuals are considered to be allergic in milk.

To obtain optimum result from milk allergy treatment, you need to completely avoid milk allergens. In order for you to fill in nutritional gap from milk, you can choose to include soy milk or rice milk in your diet.

    Seafood Allergy

If you are hypersensitive to foods such as shellfish or flaky fish then you are most likely allergic to seafood.

The only way to avoid allergic attacks is prevention from eating shellfish and fish which you are allergic into. Moreover, you also need to be careful on selecting pre-packaged foods for its labeling may not declare that it contains seafood ingredients such as shellfish or fish.

There is a reason for you to undergo selective eating. It will make you overcome the allergic reaction which is happening into your system. Moreover, it will help you recover and survive. To some extent, it will help you cease your food allergy. Selective eating may vary. Some food allergies are treated on a short-term; others are not treated in their lifetime.

    Help For Depression

Everyone becomes down or sad at times. Life events, or just a bad day can sometimes make us upset, and small things like bad traffic can make us irritable. But when a person experiences constant feelings of sadness and irritability, is exhausted with little or no activity, decreases in social activity or participating in usually enjoyable activities, that person maybe depressed. Symptoms of a depressed person include low self esteem, changing or irregular sleeping patterns, or spending lots of time thinking about things that have gone wrong. At this point in time there is no one known cause for depression, however some theories and studies indicate that severe cases of depression stem from events such as financial problems, relationship troubles, or the loss of a loved one. Sometimes the person’s depression may stem from a trouble childhood or family conflict, especially ones that have to deal with parenting issues or between parents. Other times it could be a completely spontaneous mental problem that arises from seemingly nothing.

Women are twice as prone to depression as men. Women deal with more hormonal factors that give them a predisposition to becoming more likely to be depressed. Factors such as menstrual cycle, miscarriages, premenstrual syndrome and menopause all contribute to the increase in likelihood of a woman becoming depressed. Outside stressors and tensions of caring for children, overworking, and single parenthood is a definite factor in the episodes of depression in women as compared to men. That is not to say that men don’t experience their fair share of stresses. Many men become depressed when they go through issues such as family court, job layoffs, or other huge disappointments.

Although there is no conclusive tests to diagnose depression, a good assessment of a person’s family history or inquires involving physical or chemical abuses that may contribute to the patient’s current mood. Once a diagnosis of some form can be completed most doctors will attempt to treat the depression with medications therapy or a combination of both. The importance of treatment should be stressed as a person who goes without treatment may experience continued negative affects in normal daily functioning, or even violence. Suicide attempts or trying to hurt someone else are all possibilities if the illness is gone untreated for too long. Treatments are usually a combination of drug therapy and professional counseling that requires immense family support. Anti-depressive drugs may be prescribed and have proven to be very successful in the treatment of depression. The family’s support of the person who is coping with symptoms of depression is vitally important to recovery. Expressions of love, appreciation and normal communication should be the role of the family in the treatment of the person experiencing a depressive state. Other treatments are simple and only require adequate sleep, regular exercising, avoiding illegal drugs and alcohol, and eating a healthy diet. Depression is a serious problem that can be treated effectively if caught before severe depression has began to set in. Take the steps now to prevent serious or fatal consequences if you think that you or someone you know is depressed.

If you are feeling depressed yourself, then you should take action. You may have something stressful in your life. If so, remove it. Our time on life is short, and there is no reason why anyone should spend their precious time worrying about something.
